The Truth About Rottweilers
When you think of a Rottweiler, what usually comes to mind? Sharp
teeth? Dog attacks? Blood? More often than not, when we hear about
Rottweilers, we think of a Rottweiler attacking a child or adult,
causing extensive injuries. It would be safe to say that more than
should be, Rottweilers tend to get a bad rep. Perhaps this is
because Rottweilers have been featured as vicious or evil dogs in
several movies and television shows, including the famous movie, The
Omen. This has increased their negative reputation as a bred.
But then again, Lethal Weapon 3 showed the positive traits of the
Rottweiler, with one featured as a pet to the character played by
Mel Gibson. Rottweilers have some wonderful traits and
characteristics and can make excellent pets. Described as "a calm,
confident, and courageous dog with a self-assured aloofness that
does not lend itself to immediate and indiscriminate friendships" by
the AKC Standard, Rottweilers tend to reflect their environment in
terms of their personalities.

Rottweilers became more popular right before World War I, when the
military had an increased demand for police dogs. It wasn’t until
1935 that the Rottweiler became officially recognized by the
American Kennel Club (AKC). By the mid 1990’s, Rottweilers were the
number one most registered dog by the AKC. If you didn't know, now
you do. Rottweilers, though sometimes feared by the few, are often
respected by the many.
